Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What is an uncontested divorce?
A. An uncontested divorce is one where you and your spouse agree to divorce and agree how to handle property and support issues.

Q. If my spouse and I agree, how long will divorce take?
A. Once you have provided the information needed, and your payment has cleared the bank, the attorney can generally review it and prepare the documents needed in less than five days. Express service can reduce that time to 48 hours. It usually takes the judge three to ten days to review your documents and sign the decree.

Q. What information do I need to provide for a divorce?
A. The needed information depends on your situation. We have prepared  comprehensive interviews to guide you.

Q. How do I start?
A. You can copy the Interview and Fee Schedule forms from this web site and fill them out. When you are done you can forward the information, with the signed fee agreement and payment to us. We will then review the information, contact you with any questions and prepare the documents needed.

Q. After I give all the information to the lawyer, what happens?
A. The lawyer will review the information and prepare the documents needed for the court. When the documents are done, you will obtain your spouse's signature and file them with the court. The lawyer will give you detailed instructions.

Q. How much does a divorce cost?
A. Attorney fees for an uncontested divorce with no children, residence property, or retirement accounts start at $375. You can calculate your fees for most uncontested situations by going to our Fee Schedule. In addition to attorney fees, you will need to pay court filing fees, currently $137.

Q. What if my spouse will not agree?
A. We suggest you work on collecting the information needed for divorce and confer with the attorney to learn what a court would likely order if your divorce were contested. Armed with information, you may be able to persuade your spouse to agree. Otherwise, you might have to file for a contested divorce. We can help you with that too.

Q. Do I have to go to court for an uncontested divorce?
A. In most cases no. We will process your documents through court for you. However, the judge may request a hearing in unusual circumstances.
